Sometimes we think that only adults suffer from depression when in fact, children too can fall into depression. 1. Your child cannot seem to get enough sleep, sleep is often disrupted or often has nightmares
2. Your child sleeps more than the usual hours
3. There is a noticeable change in your child’s eating habits – he could be eating much more or less than usual
4. Your child seems to be no longer interested in the hobbies and sports that he previously enjoyed
5. Your child seems more prone to throwing tempers or seems to cry more frequently

All these changes in behaviour could indicate that a child is suffering from stress and depression as counselors believe that children are unable to fake such behavioural changes. If a child is showing these symptoms of depression, professional counselling will help, but it is more important for parents to recognize that their child needs help and to think about their own behaviour towards the child that could be contributing to the stress and depression.
