2. BMW X5 xDrive45e PHEV
according to Car and Driver, the xDrive45e’s power is rated at 389 hp and works out to about 50 MPGe, which is a bit more than what the publication managed in testing. In terms of electric driving range, the manufacturer says you can get around 31 miles, but Car and Driver only managed 25 miles.
3. Kia Sorento PHEV
Kia offers some pretty great SUVs, but its Sorento PHEV offers impressive fuel economy ratings over the brand’s gas-powered models. For example, with its all-wheel drive, the Telluride only gets about 21 mpg combined. The plug-in hybrid version of the Sorento is powered by a powertrain that produces 261 hp. With this setup, you can expect to get 79 MPGe, and for an all-electric driving range, you’ll get around 32 miles on a single charge.
4. Chrysler Pacifica PHEV
Chrysler’s Pacifica has a plug-in hybrid model that few people know about. With its 16kWh battery pack working alongside a 260hp 3.6-liter V6 engine, the minivan/crossover hybrid can reach 82 MPGe. A big advantage of this version is that the battery can be charged within 2 hours on a 240 volt charger, which is helpful in preparing for a long trip. When it comes to driving range, the Pacifica can hold its own with an average of 32 miles.
5. Hyundai Tucson PHEV
One of the most impressive PHEVs on the market is the Hyundai Tucson. Under the hood is a hybrid setup that can produce approximately 261 hp combined. It’s mated to a six-speed automatic transmission, which helps with ride quality and the ability to reach 80 MPGe. As for the electric train’s driving range, you can expect a total of 33 kilometers on a single charge.
6. Kia Sportage PHEV
according to Edmonds, Kia’s Sportage plug-in hybrid model is powered by a 1.6-liter inline-four engine, an electric motor, and a six-speed automatic transmission. This hybrid configuration offers 84 MPGe and a range of 34 kilometers. Unlike other plug-in hybrid models, the Sportage it no longer qualifies for the federal tax credit.
7. Ford Escape PHEV
The Ford Escape PHEV model is powered by an inline four-cylinder engine combined with an electric motor. This combination allows the SUV to produce around 221 hp and is mated to a continuously variable automatic transmission. In terms of mileage, the Escape can get you around 105 MPGe and 37 miles of driving range. If you add gasoline to the mix, the SUV can travel 520 miles.
8. Lexus NX 450h+ PHEV
The Lexus NX 450h+ model is the highest trim available in the range, which is no surprise as it is the most luxurious and fastest in terms of performance. The hybrid powertrain is the same setup as the Toyota RAV4 Prime, except it doesn’t have quite the same power. In the NX450h+, you get 84 MPGe, compared to the Prime’s 94 MPGe, and it can go 550 miles on its gas/electric engine (600 in the Prime). The driving range of the Lexus version is 37 kilometers.
9. Toyota RAV4 Prime
Toyota’s RAV4 Prime offers some of the best features in its class, including a hybrid powertrain that produces around 302 horsepower. Although it gets 10 MPGe more than the Lexus NX 450h+, it still outperforms many of its PHEV rivals With a driving range of 42 kilometers when using electric only mode.
10.Karma GS-6 Sport PHEV (and Revero GT)
From the electric trio of GSe-6 (all-electric model), GS-6 and Revero GT, you get impressive electric motors. The GS-6 is the eco-mode version, offering a powertrain that produces a whopping 536 horsepower, while the Revero GT, like the GS-6, will produce a whopping 1,100 horsepower. The GS-6 offers 70 MPGe fuel economy and 61 miles of electric-only driving range.
