A language assistance hotline is available for voting in Colorado
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) – Beginning today, October 17, 2022, Colorado voters can call the Secretary of State Hotline for language assistance for assistance in interpreting the ballot.
The new phone line will allow voters to receive real-time translations from live interpreters in Spanish, Korean, Chinese, Taiwanese and Vietnamese. Additional languages may be available upon request.
“Voting should be available to every voter in Colorado,” said Secretary Griswold. “The new Language Helpline does just that by helping Coloradans who speak or read only limited English with live ballot translation.”
For translations, voters can call the Secretary of State’s office at 970-860-6970. A staff member in the Department will connect the caller with an interpreter to help translate the context of the ballot.
The language helpline is available from today and will remain available until the end of election day on Tuesday, November 8. Hours are currently 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., but will expand closer to the election, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. 19:00 starting on November 4.
A language helpline is available to voters as a result HB21-1011. According to Colorado Statutes, translation services may only be provided to interpret the contents of the ballot, not the contents of the Bluebook or to describe the measures. This includes providing instructions for completing the ballot, such as:
- how to fill ovals or make corrections,
- how to properly put the ballot in the ballot envelope and sign
- how to return the ballot by mail, precinct or polling service and polling center
Eligible Coloradans still can register or update your registration.
