The American tech giant Apple has directly confirmed that the iPhone will finally switch to a USB-C port.

According to GSM Arena, Apple’s chief marketing officer, Greg Joswiak, said in an interview with the Wall Street Journal that the company will replace the lighting outlet even if his team isn’t happy with the change.

Besides Joswiak, the show’s VP Craig Federighi also took part in the interview, but none of them revealed when exactly the move will happen.

Apple executives said that “Europeans are dictating the timing for European customers” and it’s a sophisticated way of saying anything about the switching schedule, GSM Arena reports.

According to the outlet, Joswiak declined to answer whether Apple would ship a connector sold outside the European Union, but that seems highly unlikely.

Executives also spoke of Apple’s dedication to going its own way and trusting its engineers rather than complying with lawmakers’ standards and certifying third-party hardware.

He even talked about micro USB and how Apple was pushed to meet the unexamined requirement.

According to GSM Arena, the marketing chief added that charging bricks with detachable cables solved the problem of standardization, claiming that switching to USB-C would create a lot of electronic waste as people are pushed to buy new cables and discard old ones.
