Apply now for winter crisis heating help – Morning Journal
Winter heating assistance for Lorain County residents without heat or at risk of disconnection will be available beginning Nov. 1, according to a news release.
However, citizens can now start making appointments online.
Winter Crisis applicants must live at or below 175% of the federal poverty line or have been diagnosed with the coronavirus, according to the release.
Crisis appointments can be scheduled at lccaa.secure.force.com/appointments for the following reasons:
• The heating is switched off
• An opt-out notification has been received
• A new service needs to be established
• It is necessary to pay for the transfer service
• Bulk fuel users have less than a 10-day supply of wood, coal, pellets, propane or oil
• Default PIPP payments
These emergencies are eligible for an appointment with Lorain County Community Action Agency staff, which will be conducted by phone, the announcement states.
Personal services are offered for seniors only in partnership with Lorain County Office on Aging.
An LCCAA Energy Services employee is stationed at the Office on the Aging in Elyria from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Those age 60 and older who are not comfortable making an online appointment can walk in at that time.
A safe deposit box is available at 936 Broadway Ave. in Lorain for the necessary documents.
Required documentation includes:
• Income data for all household members aged 18 or over for the last 30 days
• Any member reporting “no income” must complete a no income form
• Social Security numbers for all household members
• Proof of citizenship for all household members
• Latest electricity and gas bills
The maximum benefits are:
• $175 for regulated gas and electric utilities
• $750 for unregulated gas and electric utilities
• $900 for bulk fuel, propane, heating oil or kerosene
• $550 for coal or wood
The program can also finance up to $500 for repairs or replacements of heating units.
If you don’t have a shut-off notice but need help paying your bills, you may be eligible for the Energy Home Assistance Program.
Applications for this program are accepted at energyhelp.ohio.gov.
If you have questions about an existing application, you can also call 440-245-1870 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, to speak with a representative.
The program lasts until March 31, 2023.
