Cardiovascular systems (Nasdaq:CSII) announced today that it has fully launched its 2.00 Max Crown for peripheral orbital atherectomy systems.

Cardiovascular systems from St. Paula, Minnesota, built a 2.00 Max Crown on their Diamondback 360 orbital atherectomy platform. It has a 70 micron, diamond-coated, enlarged crown.

According to the press release, the crown creates a more effective engagement in mixed plaque. This helps achieve optimal luminal enhancement in mild to moderately calcified lesions above the knee.

Dr. Amit Srivastava of the Bay Area Heart Center in St. Petersburg, Florida, incorporated the 2.00 Max Crown into his practice. He said it “significantly expands” the lesions that can be treated with the orbital cardiovascular atherectomy system. He added that it “provides exceptional luminal gain” for mixed morphology lesions above the knee.

“The full commercial launch of the 2.00 Max Crown represents another important product launch for CSI as we expand and diversify our product offering,” he said Scott Ward, chairman, president and CEO of Cardiovascular Systems. “Our peripheral orbital atherectomy systems can now treat a wider range of plaque morphologies throughout the leg. By combining this new device with our complete line of interventional support devices, we continue to advance physicians’ ability to improve outcomes for patients undergoing peripheral interventions.”
