Here’s a look at the individuals in the race to be voted as the Lansing State Journal’s newest athlete for the week’s winner.
Voting is unlimited and open until noon Wednesday to determine the winner, who will be shown at LSJ.

Keegan Bates, Mason Football Team
The junior scored the winning goal in overtime while helping the Bulldogs secure their first title since 2015 with a 2-1 win over Pinkney. Bates scored the winning goal three minutes into the first extra session.
Theodore Davis, The Danville Boys Cross Suburb
The sophomore finished as a singles champion at CMAC Camp III with a time of 16:22.6 on Wednesday. He won the race by 23 seconds over Colin Farmer of BWW. That time was the third-fastest of the season for Davis, who ranks as one of Greater Lansing’s top performers.
Josie Jenkinson, Uso Girls Cross Country
The sophomore had a solid week that included helping the Trojans win the team title. Jenkinson had a season best time of 19:40.0 on Wednesday while finishing third in the Flint Metro League Championship. She followed this up by winning the Shiawassee County meet with a time of 20:01.9 while helping Owosso win the team championship.
Anya Hobeck, the DeWitt girls swim
Big helped the Panthers overtake East Lansing in an unbeaten CAAC Blue match. Hopek was the champ in the 100 freestyle in 55.83 seconds, finished first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:22/74 and was part of a winning pair of relays. She led the 200 freestyle relay with a winning time of 1:47.20 and the 400 freestyle relay who won in 4:00.72.
Robert Noyes, Eaton Rapids Football
The Greater had the winning goal for the Greyhounds in their 2-1 win over Lakewood in the Division 2 final. The goal was part of a strong second half for Eaton Rapids, which eliminated a 1-0 deficit in the break to reach the area. Noyes also had a goal in the 4-0 victory over Portland in the district semifinals.
