D-SNAP uses open applications for St. Johns, Flagler County
Districts of St. Johns and Flagler can pre-register on October 17. Pre-registration in Putnam County begins on October 24th.
ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — When a storm hits, the damage is widespread and affects everyday aspects of people’s lives, including food. Can you afford food after covering hotel stays or planning home repairs?
Florida offers SNAP disaster benefits to help pay for food.
You will need to pre-register and pass an interview to ensure the state is qualified.
People in the counties of St. Johns and Flagler will be able to register in advance Advantages of D-SNAP starting on October 17th. Putnam County residents can pre-register next week.
D-SNAP stands for “Supplemental Disaster Nutrition Assistance Program.”
The program is intended for families affected by Hurricane Ian who are not yet receiving food assistance through the SNAP program.
The interview process will begin this week by phone or in person, but phone is preferred.
According to the state website, you must meet these requirements:
- Applicants must NOT be receiving regular SNAP benefits
- Applicants must have lived or worked in a county that was declared a disaster at the time of Hurricane Ian
- Applicants must have suffered loss due to a disaster such as:
- Damage to their homes or self-employed property
- Loss of food
- Decrease or loss of income
- Other expenses related to disasters
- Applicants must meet financial eligibility requirements
When applying, have your state driver’s license or identification number and social security number ready. The Department for Children and Families says the process will go faster.
