The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is warning consumers, caregivers and health care providers not to use Remembered that Mighty Bliss Electric Heating Pad Distributed by Wheel LLC (doing business as Perch) due to the risks of injury including electric shock, skin irritation, rashes or burns.

On October 24, 2022, Wheels LLC announced the recall of more than 500,000 Mighty Bliss electric heating pads distributed between July 2021 and July 2022. These products were sold online through Amazon.com and Walmart.com with the following model and lot numbers:

Recommendations for patients, caregivers and health care providers when using any electric heating pad

  • Always follow the safety instructions included with your electric heating pad.
  • To avoid the risk of burns, only use an electric heating pad for 15-20 minutes at a time.
  • If you see any wires, holes or tears, stop using the heating pad.
  • Stop using the device when sparking occurs.
  • Make sure there is no water around the heating pad when using it.
  • Always start with the lowest setting and increase the heat only when needed.
  • Place the towel between the heating pad and the skin to help reduce the risk of burns.
  • Never sleep with the heating pad on.
  • Do not use a heating pad near an oxygen tank.
  • Do not use pins, nails, thumbtacks, or other metal objects to puncture the heating pad.
  • If the heating pad has a fabric cover, place the fabric cover on the heating pad.
  • Do not allow children to use the heating pad without supervising.
  • If you experience any adverse event with the use of an electric heating pad, please report good incident to the FDA. Prompt reporting of adverse events can help the FDA to recognize and better understand the risks associated with these products.

To date, the FDA is not aware of any deaths associated with the use of this product. The FDA is aware of reports of injuries and potential hazards associated with the use of the Mighty Bliss electric heating pad.

The FDA is aware that between July 2021 and September 2022 the firm received 286 customer complaints related to product overheating, sparking, burning or posing other electrical problems. Of these, 31 complaints reported injuries such as electric shock, burns and rashes or skin irritation.
