EA shuts down servers for a lot of very good, very old games
Electronic Arts has quietly started the process of shutting down the Internet servers for a bunch of old ones games, some of which are absolute classics, and some of which you’d be forgiven for forgetting all about.
He was the first to notice TrueAchievementsthe list includes favorites like Mirror’s Edge, 2010 NBA Jam reboot i Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 (Tim Curry, “the only place capitalism hasn’t corrupted” one).
Shutting down the server will have several impacts. First, it will apparently shut down the multiplayer servers for any game that supports the feature games like Red Alert 3 that still have an active community, but already have fan-supported solutions for it.
Second, it will prevent you from getting any achievements that have an online component; NBA Jam there are a couple that require you to play online, so they will be locked forever when the servers go down.
Third, and most desperately, going down this list made me realize it Mirror’s Edge and Red Alert 3 are now 14 yearsif it is Mercenaries the games were great and sadly missed in the 2010s as well NBA Jam the reboot is now almost as old as the original NBA Jam.
