Galaxy M54: Samsung’s upcoming mid-ranger could pack some serious firepower
Samsung is no stranger to putting generation-old flagship chips in its mid-ranges. Last year Galaxy F62 used by now three year old Exynos 9825 which powered the Galaxy Note 10 series. The upcoming Galaxy M54 could also follow suit, but this time with a Qualcomm chip.
According to Pixel on YouTube, the middle rank will reportedly use a Snapdragon 888 SoC. That should give it an edge over its Dimensity 900-powered predecessor, the Galaxy M53. However, our depth the review rated the device poorly due to screen flickering and inaccurate GPS tracking. It would be ideal if Samsung solved those problems on the Galaxy M54. The rest of the device is a mixed bag of upgrades and upgrades, however.
The Galaxy M54 will ditch its ancestor’s 108MP primary sensor and replace it with a 64MP alternative, presumably as a cost-cutting measure. It is paired with a 12MP ultra-wide-angle lens and a 5MP macro/depth sensor. The 32MP front sensor will remain unchanged.
On the other hand, the Galaxy M54 will draw power from a powerful 6,000 mAh battery. However, it might take a while to turn it on, as the maximum charging power is limited to 25 W. Unfortunately, the screen gets a significant drop. Galaxy M53 and Galaxy M52 previously both ran FHD+ 120Hz panels, but the Galaxy M54 will use a 90Hz panel instead.
The Samsung Galaxy M54 should be a great mid-ranger, even if Samsung sells it for around $400. There’s still no word on its launch date, but if previous launch cycles are anything to go by, you can expect to see it before the end of the year.
