Google Pixel Fold leak reveals size, screen and camera details
We haven’t heard anything official about it Google Pixel Fold at the launch Google Pixel 7, Google Pixel 7 Pro and Google Pixel watch – but as the new leak shows, it’s clear that a Google-made flip phone is headed our way soon.
People code 91mobiles (opens in new tab) – who are often accurate in their predictions – were able to get access to several specifications for the foldable device, including information on the size and shape of the device, plus some details about the display and camera.
The display panels are apparently ordered from Samsung (according to previous rumours), and will run at a resolution of 2208 x 1840. The display is said to offer an average brightness of 800 nits, a maximum brightness of 1200 nits, and a refresh rate that can go up to 120 Hz. Meanwhile, the overall dimensions of the unfolded device are 123mm x 148mm.
Sensor specifications
In terms of cameras, the Pixel Fold is said to boast a rear camera consisting of Sony IMX787 main (64MP), IMX386 (12.2MP) ultra-wide and S5K3J1 (10MP) telephoto lenses. The internal display camera reportedly uses a Sony IMX355 (8MP) sensor, with an S5K3J1 (10MP) sensor on the external display.
Some of these sensor specs have already been mentioned, but as we get closer to the Pixel Fold’s launch, details are starting to come together from several sources – which of course makes it more likely that they’re indeed accurate.
Talking about the launch, the foldable phone is expected to make its debut at some point during 2023 (after originally being rumored for 2022). As always, price will be crucial, and is expected to be somewhere around $1,400 (around £1,255 / AU$2,260).
Analysis: This foldable comes into focus
We’ve heard that Google is working on a flip phone for quite some time at this point (although we’re not in Apple Car territory in terms of longevity). With the frequency of leaks we’re hearing now, it seems like the launch is getting closer.
The signs promise: with Galaxy Z Fold 4, Samsung has now reached the fourth iteration of its flagship foldable phone, so it knows what it’s doing in terms of display. Then there’s Google an extension of the Pixel hardware linewhich shows that the company is serious about increasing the number of devices it offers.
While foldable phones aren’t mainstream right now, they’re slowly becoming a more common sight – and as prices continue to drop as the technology gets cheaper, that trend will only go in one direction. It seems like the right time for Google to step in and give Pixel fans a top-notch deal.
Meanwhile, Apple is waiting in the wings with its own foldable iPhone. It seems as if Apple is willing to take its time when it comes to launching a foldable phone, perhaps waiting for the technology to become even cheaper and more reliable.
