Gourmet: New M2 iPad Pro models to be released ‘in a few days’

Apple will announce new 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models for “a few days”, respected Bloomberg a journalist Mark Gurman he said today in his latest Power On newsletter.

The new 11-inch and 12.9-inch models, codenamed J617 and J620, will be the first upgrade iPad from April 2021, where both models received M1 chip and a new 12.9-inch mini-LED screen. For its first update in a year and a half, the upcoming ‌iPad Pro‌ models are expected to get it M2 Apple silicon chip, which offers faster performance and possible new charging capabilities.

Design-wise, the new iPads will look like the current models, without significant changes. Early rumors suggested that the smaller 11-inch model would get a mini-LED display, which is currently only available on the larger 12.9-inch model, but that no longer expected to occur.

The new ‌iPad Pro‌ models could also have some form MagSafe charging capabilities, as well according to previous reports. There’s also the possibility that the new ‌iPad Pro‌ models could have reverse wireless charging capabilities, allowing users to charge their own iPhone or AirPods on the back of the ‌iPad‌.

Given the incremental update expected for upcoming iPads, Apple is no longer planning an event for October. Apple is expected to launch new iPads and updates to the Mac line through press releases and updates on its website.

Along with the new ‌iPad Pro‌ models, Apple is also expected to announce iPadOS 16 later this month. Unlike previous years, this year’s iPadOS and iOS updates were not released simultaneously. Instead, Apple delayed ‌iPadOS 16‌ until later in the fall to give it more time to refine the update and work on Stage Manager. ‌Stage Manager‌ is a new multitasking and windowing system for certain ‌iPad‌ models that continues to face errorsdespite the release of ‌iPadOS 16‌ in just a few weeks.
