iPhone 14 Plus sales ‘lower than expected’ after launch last week
Less than a week after launch iPhone 14 Additionally, another report surfaced of unexpectedly low sales for the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus, suggesting that Apple may be actively reducing inventory and component orders for the devices as early as this month.
Paywall report from DigiTimes claims that sales of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus have been significantly overshadowed by the “enthusiastic” response to iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Speaking sources DigiTimes say that despite the differences in sales performance between Pro and non-Pro iPhone models this year, total shipments of the iPhone 14 will likely be roughly the same as for iPhone 13 lineup in the second half of 2021.
If sales of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus “remain at the level” in the near future, Apple may reportedly reduce orders for parts to manufacture the devices in the second half of October. If Apple cuts orders more aggressively than expected, then total shipments of the iPhone 14 line by the end of the year could even fall compared to the iPhone 13 series in the same time frame last year. Research shows that Apple expected to produce a total of around 90 million new iPhones in the second half of 2022, but this could fall to 80 million units due to “slow demand”.
The information echoes multiple other reports suggesting that the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus fell short of Apple’s sales expectations. Shortly after the launch, an Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo Say it demand for these two devices is “weak”, with worse pre-order results than the third generation iPhone SE and iPhone 13 mini. He went so far as to claim that “Apple’s product segmentation strategy for standard models is failing this year” and Apple is believed to have succeeded postponed plans increase the production of these two devices. Display analyst Ross Young says panel orders for the iPhone 14 are down 38 percent compared to the iPhone 13 at the same time last year, while the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus are on the resale market they lose their value twice as fast like iPhone 13 mini and iPhone 13 last year.
On the other hand, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are reportedly continuing sees high demand. Apple is believed to have moved the production from non-Pro models to make more iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max devices, as evidenced by increased supply of components.
