solid state buttons. you won’t notice it when you accidentally touch them. The only advantage is for Apple, who can free up the button mechanism that costs a few cents to manufacture and can increase profit by charging an extra €50 for that new feature. what will come next? no more physical control at all and instead voice control for volume? “Slope, turn up the volume, please!”

I personally don’t use the volume button (and the power one) very often. So it’s just a fancy feature for me, unless it brings something useful, like TouchID or (well, I don’t know)

had them on my htc u12+ back in the day and hated the mismatch.

They’re just capacitive buttons like the Galaxy S1 on the S7, but for volume instead of navigation.
And that’s an absolutely terrible idea.

I can’t understand how you ended up on a tech website, but you don’t know how a haptic motor works.
That sounds absolutely terrible. Don’t get me wrong, I love Touch ID, it was a good tool and still is, works great and all, but solid volume buttons.. I just can’t think of any possible way to do it well.
