Portal Manager 2 explains the cut content

Portal 2 director Josh Weier talked more about the game’s cut content and provided key information about why the features were cut or how they appeared.

The team behind Valve’s first-person puzzle-adventure masterpiece have spoken candidly about cutting content in the past. In the Game Developers Conference 2012And writers Eric Woolbaugh and Chet Valizek talked about the features that were cut like Garfield references, multiple endings, and Wheatley’s early demise. Later that year at PAX Prime, Wolpaw also revealed that Valve planned to be the protagonist. Chil marries a tower during the game.

10 years later, speaking to Did You Know Gaming, Josh Weier focused on his own vision of why these pieces were cut and where they originated during development.

How Valve found the portal – that’s one thing.

In the co-op campaign, GLaDOS will attempt to rewrite a parody of Garfield called Dorfeldt. According to Weir, “[the writers] He hated Garfield, “and so they took any opportunity to mock the comic strip. Although Weir was the game’s director and project leader, he was more involved in developing the game’s solo campaign. He noted that Doorfeldt would have appeared early in the co-op but had not seen a copy” concrete” of it.

The team briefly considered giving Doug Ratman (also known as Ratman), the Aperture employee whose murals had been seen in Portal, an appearance in Portal 2. They eventually decided to turn it down, with Weier citing the technical difficulties the team would face. “There’s always this thing in games where you can make it look really good and timeless until you show someone, and then instantly date your game,” Weier told DYKG. This is why Chell was never shown up close in the game, and Weier stated that the team felt it would take a long time to make Ratman look good and recognizable.

Weier said that AI would have posed another problem, as team members who worked on Half-Life 2 felt that it would be difficult to get Ratman’s AI to interact seamlessly with the player and any portals they might launch.

Weier also explained the animal Turret King’s design origin. Artist Richard Lord created the game’s graphs on the constellations, like a classic”65 percent more bullet per bullet“Video. Approximately in the middle of the video, a line of constellations with a different skin appears.” “At a certain point,” Weir recalls, “I think [Lord] One took a leopard print and put a small crown on it. I think he was amusing himself, but everyone thought that was funny, so he set it up that video“.
