Razer Edge: Steam Deck competitor unveiled with 144Hz AMOLED display, Qualcomm Snapdragon G3x SoC and 5G
Razer has teased the launch of its first handheld gaming console, the Razer Edge 5G, few days ago. It’s being touted as a 5G cloud gaming console, similar to the previously announced Logitech G Cloud. Razer has now officially unveiled the console at Razercon 2022. Its Wi-Fi-only variant retails for $399 and can be pre-ordered via Razer’s website for a nominal fee of $5. It will officially hit shelves in January 2023. There’s no word on the price of its 5G variant, but Razer says it’s exclusive to Verizon.
The Razer Edge has a 6.8-inch 2,400 x 1,080 (FHD+) 144Hz AMOLED panel. That’s quite a step above the standard 60Hz panels offered by competitors like the Steam Deck and Nintendo Switch. It remains to be seen if 144Hz gaming is possible on the Razer Edge, more so since it uses an ARM-based Qualcomm Snapdragon G3x SoC. Qualcomm has been vague about its internals, with its only known specification being a boost frequency of 3.0 GHz. Finally, the console is powered by a 5,000 mAh battery.
Every Razer Edge console is bundled with the Razer Kishi V2 controller. It’s essentially an enhanced tablet fine-tuned for gaming. It comes pre-installed with Xbox Cloud Gaming, Nvidia GeForce Now and Epic Games Store and supports other services like Steam Link. The console has 128 GB of storage with 8 GB of RAM. Those looking to get some hands-on experience with the Razer Edge can do so at CES 2023.
