The report finds that the smartphone display panel market saw a 5 percent year-over-year revenue decline in the first half of 2022. The market continues to lead Samsung Display with a 53 percent share of revenue follows BOE Technology with 15 percent and Tianma Microelectronics up from 8 percent in the first half of 2022. The top three display panel manufacturers accounted for nearly 76 percent of the revenue share of the global smartphone display market during the period.
Jeffrey Mathewssenior analyst in Strategy Analytics commented: “The smartphone display panel market has been held back by declining demand for LCD panels, while OLED adoption has expanded to mid-range smartphones to allow OEMs to gain momentum. Display vendors have seen growing demand for flexible OLED panels with high refresh rate specifications driving OLED growth over the period. Samsung Display has been in a strong position to benefit from customer demand, enabling a strong string of design wins for its OLED panels. BOE, TCL CSOT and Tianma increased its OLED production and won orders to supply OLED panels to leading smartphone brands in the first half of 2022.”
Stephen Entwistle, Vice President of Strategic Technologies Practice at Strategy Analytics noted, “We expect OLED panels to continue and drive market growth enabled by stronger competition from display suppliers and increased panel yields for OLED displays. LCD panels are expected to be oversupplied, leading to further price declines. Weak macroeconomic sentiments represent a strong risk to the overall growth outlook of the smartphone display market.”
