Samsung Blockchain Security System

Blockchain technology is being used for more and more uses every day, including security and trust-based applications. This time Samsung, the Korean consumer electronics and software company, did announced implementing a “private blockchain” system as a way to increase the security of your smart devices.

At the recent Samsung Developer Conference, the system, called Knox Matrix, was unveiled as a revamp of Samsung’s current security approach. Although the company was thin on details and did not elaborate on the inner workings of the system, it explained that it will interconnect various smart devices available online, to improve security through “multi-layer mutual monitoring”.

For example, Samsung claims that using the phone connected to another smart device like a TV or a smart AC will make these devices safer from any threat.

Connectivity and hardware

According to Samsung, its Knox Matrix solution will also simplify login tasks throughout the home, as login status is automatically distributed to devices that need to join the network. However, at the same time, it will supposedly protect sensitive information from other devices on the network.

The announcement also states that “Whether your Samsung devices are based on Android, Tizen, or another operating system, Samsung Knox Matrix will be able to provide a unique security SDK [software development kit].” Samsung has not given the launch date and specifications of this system.

Samsung has been active in incorporating hardware security specifically created for blockchain and cryptocurrency-based environments. Already in 2019, the company included a wallet in its flagship smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S10, which highlighted hardware protection of private keys.

The security system included at the time, called Knox, is a precursor to the system Samsung recently introduced. The company has also been very present in the non-fungible token (NFT) space, cooperating with six different companies in August to establish its own Galaxy-branded NFT ecosystem.
