Some Pixel 7 series users are complaining about scrolling error

The Pixel 7 series has just been released and we’re already hearing from users about the bug that has popped up. According to some Reddit users (via Android Police), scrolling on the Pixel 7 line has become a problem. Sometimes the user will scroll and travel more than they wanted, and other times the scrolling will take the user virtually nowhere.

Scrolling is an issue for some Pixel 7 series users

Redditor with username click4dylan (we assume his name is Dylan) wrote: “Pixel 7 Pro and Pixel 6 Pro side by side here and scrolling on the 6 Pro is much more consistent and smooth.” PizzaCatLover wrote: “Count me in here. Pixel 7 Pro, scrolling is awkward and inconsistent compared to my S20+. This is so weird. I’ll lie on the screen to scroll and it just stops, like the momentum isn’t carrying like it should. Said I would like it to feel “right” maybe once in ten. I thought it was just me.”

He adds that the screen saver mode makes things worse, and that disabling the 120Hz refresh rate (aka Smooth Display) doesn’t help. He does have a theory though. “My theory is that it’s too sensitive to going back, I REALLY had trouble swiping left and right, like I’m dismissing notifications. If you don’t do it exactly right, it doesn’t want to delete it. So it makes it go back… This is so fucking disappointing, it honestly makes this whole phone boring to use.”
While most of the complaints were about scrolling on the Pixel 7 Pro, some Pixel 7 users also experienced this issue. While not all users found that the system update that came with the phones out of the box helped, others said that the behavior went away after they installed it. Go Settings > System > System update to install the update after turning on the device for the first time. PizzaCatLoverfor example, he noticed that the 78 MB update did not stop the problem at all.

One user said that disabling smooth display helped. If you have this problem, you may need to check it yourself. Go Settings > Display and turn off Smooth Display. The problem with this is that many people find it difficult to go back to 60Hz screen refresh from 120Hz.

It may be early days, but so far we haven’t seen some of the issues that have plagued the Pixel 6 lineup, including a connectivity issue that prevented the phones from connecting to cellular signals. And no one has said anything negative about the under-display fingerprint scanner that has reportedly been replaced by improved hardware on the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro.

Pixel 7 users are hoping that Google will fix the scrolling issue with a software update

Another Reddit user with a handle YoungPlumming says: “Scrolling through the app drawer and settings feels pretty smooth, but when I’m on Twitter or Reddit it feels really choppy. Little did I realize the apps weren’t optimized yet or something. Hope there’s a fix for everyone soon. ” Software update is the method it uses Google to eradicate past mistakes throughout Pixel history.
