Texas allocates $11.7 million for water, wastewater and flood projects
Texas officials have announced over $11 million in infrastructure funding for water, wastewater and flood projects across the state.
The Texas Water Development Board announced the funding through a combination of funding and grants. The committee distributed awards for six unique projects:
$4,650,500 to El Paso County for flood mitigation
El Paso County is receiving $4,650,500, consisting of $2,372,000 in funding and $2,278,500 in grants from the state’s Flood Infrastructure Fund (FIF). The county will use the assistance for planning, procurement, design and construction of the flood mitigation project. The county plans to repair the levee at the El Paso Hills Jail Basin and build a new jail for additional flood and sediment storage.
$2,638,900 to the City of Gladewater for water system improvements
The City of Gladewater is receiving $2,638,900, consisting of $1,861,000 in funding and $777,900 in principal forgiveness, from the State Beverage Revolving Fund (DWSRF). The city will use the assistance for the planning, design and construction of the water system improvement project. The city plans to rebuild the elevated storage tank and suction pumps at the Allison Avenue water treatment plant and replace water lines throughout the system. In addition, the city will develop a property management plan.
$1,488,000 to the City of Marble Falls for wastewater system improvements
The City of Marble Falls is receiving $1,488,000, consisting of $995,000 in financing and $493,000 in principal forgiveness, from the Clean Water Revolving Fund (CWSRF). The city will use the assistance to finance the planning and design of improvements to the wastewater system. The city plans to evaluate development of the overall treatment concept and direction, including source water characterization, filtration, disinfection, stabilization and storage options.
$1,475,000 to Welch Water Supply Corporation for water treatment plant improvements
Welch Water Supply Corporation receives $1,475,000, consisting of $675,000 in financing and $800,000 in principal forgiveness, from the State Beverage Revolving Fund (DWSRF). The Corporation will use the assistance to plan, design and construct improvements to the water treatment plant. The corporation plans to install a new reverse osmosis water treatment system to treat groundwater and construct an evaporation pond to receive effluent from the reverse osmosis system.
$998,000 to Mullin Independent School District for water system improvements
Mullin Independent School District (ISD) is receiving $998,000, consisting of $398,000 in financing and $600,000 in principal forgiveness, from the State Beverage Revolving Fund (DWSRF). ISD will use assistance to plan and design water system improvements. ISD plans to evaluate the viability of building reverse osmosis treatment for its existing well, increasing the capacity of the well, and upgrading the existing water distribution system to connect to a larger system for the community. ISD will also analyze the costs and benefits of the new well.
$491,400 to the City of Moran for wastewater system improvements
Lastly, the City of Moran receives $491,400 in principal forgiveness from the Clean Water State Revolving Fund (CWSRF). The city will use the assistance for the planning, design and construction of the wastewater system improvement project. Moran plans to renovate the existing wastewater tank and wastewater disposal system.
