The armor focus trick in ‘Destiny 2’ took two years to learn

Not much is happening in Destiny 2 these days, even with the reset later today. Just more wasted festival, which I’m already done outside of some ridiculously long wins for cult ghost writer nickname. So I wanted to come back to a little more general advice.

Destiny 2 has had new ghost mods in the game for two years now after an exciting rework of the system that first arrived in November of 2020. They include things like increased glimmers, XP gains, additional and more immediate playlist rewards, the ability to target focus stats, and a shield.

You can choose any six stats and your high stat shields or exotic items (excluding engrams) will drop a minimum of +10 on that stat. Often over 20+. When used with the High Stats Shield focused on the Rising War Table season, it wasn’t easy to focus on the total big stats and exactly the numbers you need in the different stats.

However, it took me forever to figure out what is arguably the best way to do it. A reader pointed this out a few weeks ago. Here’s what you need to know about how focus works:

Destiny 2 divides stats into two groups: Mobility, Flexibility, and Recovery, then Discipline, Intellect, and Strength. A while ago, the only stats anyone cared very much about were recovery and intelligence (except for some Hunters), which later became Recovery and Discipline. But now with increased resilience where level 10 gives you 40% damage resistance, now you want to recover both And the Flexibility. As much as you can get in both, ideally.

So, here’s the trick. Want to use Specter Focus Discipline mode.

why? Because of the way Bungie distributes stats between the two pools. The high starting shield, 60+, will ensure that 30+ stats are in one group and 30+ in the other. This is so that you don’t have an impressive +20 in mobility, recovery, flexibility and the like, +2 in discipline, intellect and strength. Armor does not exist like that.

So, what you do with discipline is you pick the most common stats out of the bottom three to focus on, which means you have a 2 out of 3 chance of being on the other “side” of high concentration that gives you a high number in either recovery or resilience, or a significant amount in both. I’m using Discipline here because the thought has become more difficult, and the strength is usually much less than the ability to have more grenades more often. But to each of them.

If you do it the other way, and choose ghost mode to focus on recovery or resilience, you now have a 2 in 3 chance that the high stats on the other side will be one you don’t want very much.

This has worked wonders for me. I can’t tell you how much the quality of my armor has improved dramatically since I made this switch, and I keep more pieces often with great distros. This also works for wild exotics as well, so you’ll always want to adjust discipline, just in case.

So yeah, I hope you learned something like I did. Happy fishing.
