The G4 is shutting down less than a year after it was launched

G4 TV’s revival is sadly coming to an end less than a year after its relaunch, as Comcast pulls the network behind series like Xplay, Attack of the show!and more.

As reported deadline, Comcast Spectacor Chairman and CEO Dave Scott wrote a letter to all employees saying G4 is being discontinued immediately.

“Tim: As you know, the G4 was reintroduced last year to capitalize on the popularity of gaming,” Scott wrote. “We invested in creating the new G4 as an online and TV destination for fans to be entertained, inspired and connected with gaming content.

“Over the past few months, we’ve worked hard to generate that interest in G4, but ratings are low and the network hasn’t achieved sustainable financial results. It’s certainly not what we hoped for, and as a result we’ve made the very difficult decision to discontinue G4.” , effective immediately. I know this is disappointing news, and I’m disappointed too. I want to thank you and everyone on the G4 team for your hard work and dedication to the network.

“Our HR team is reaching out to you to provide support, discuss other opportunities that may be available and answer any questions you may have.”

G4 officially relaunched on November 16, 2021. and had plans to not only launch on “the Verizon Fios, Cox and Xfinity TV line-up,” but also stream on “Philo and work with Twitch on a multi-year promotional and commercial partnership through G4’s official Twitch channel.”

The news seems to have come as a surprise, as G4 host Jirard the Completionist shared that a tweet about G4 shutting down from Wario64 revealed that he had lost his job. Girard was not the only one Alex “Goldenboy” Mendez revealed that he is in “active negotiations” for his new contract with G4.

Emily Rose learned of the news via a Deadline article while flying home from her grandfather’s funeral.

Our hearts go out to these three and everyone else affected by this news.

G4 originally launched in 2002 and ceased programming in 2012 as it planned to relaunch as the Esquire Network.
