The redesigned iPad and M2 iPad Pro will almost certainly arrive tomorrow
As the days of October tick by, we’re all wondering the same thing: when will all that rumored new Apple hardware be arriving? We can have our answer as Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman claims that the first editions could arrive “in a few days”. In a follow-up tweet on Monday, he reported that it would arrive on Tuesday morning.
In his weekly Power On newsletter, Gurman reports that Apple plans to launch updates for its first iPad Pro and Entry-level iPad lines. The iPad Pro will look like the current models that haven’t changed since 2018, but bring more performance with the M2 chip. There are also rumors that the new iPad Pro could feature wireless and MagSafe charging, but screen sizes and other specs are expected to remain the same, including screen differences between the 11-inch and 12.9-inch models, which was confirmed in tweet by Ross Young supply chain consultant on screen.
The 10th generation iPad will reportedly undergo a much bigger change, with a larger 10.5-inch screen, flat edges and USB-C. There are conflicting rumors about how dramatic the redesign will be – it could lose the Home button altogether – with Gurman only saying that the new model will be “the most significant update to the line in several years”. A Twitter user spotted a new 2022 iPad case at Target that shows the new tablet will support the second-generation Apple Pencil. The current iPad is the only Apple tablet that supports the 1st generation Pencil.
Gurman’s follow-up tweet confirmed that “days” actually means days and that the iPads will arrive on Tuesday morning, likely at 8:30am ET. That’s what Gurman says too iPadOS 16.1 won’t arrive until October 24th, so the new iPads probably won’t ship until next Friday, October 28th.
Apple also reportedly has a slew of new Macs ready to launch this month, including M2 refreshes Mac mini and 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro. They could arrive next week with macOS Monterey or land in early November.
