If you have family or friends over at your house over the holidays, one of the first questions someone will ask is your Wi-Fi name and password.

This is especially true of any overnight guest. You can read it to them when they enter numbers and letters on their phone like this: “Capital C, lowercase e, 5, 8, ampersand, uppercase e, question mark.”

If you both have iPhones, Apple makes it simple. Just tell them the name of your network and when they choose it, you’ll get a notification on your Apple device asking if you’d like to share the password with them. If you click yes, they will be logged in immediately.

If you have an Android device, it’s still pretty easy. On your phone, open Settings, then Network & Internet. Depending on which Android phone you have, it might be called “Contacts”. Next, choose Wi-Fi and click on the gear or gear, and click on Share which will reveal a QR code that they can scan with their camera app and connect to your network.

Add your Wi-Fi network and password, then print the QR code and stick it on the wall or fridge. When a guest needs to sign in, they use their camera to scan the code. Overnight guests may need to log into Wi-Fi on a laptop. If they have an iPhone that’s signed into the network, iOS 16 allows them to see the password by tapping Settings, Wi-Fi, and Show Password. They can then enter the revealed password on their laptop. However, maybe it will be easier for laptops if you print out the network name and password and put it in the guest room.
