It’s time to join the new public preview experience of Google Home

Google Home is set to receive a major makeover in the near future. We know because Google told us a lot about a month ago, they only said that the new experience will arrive first through the public preview program. Well, friends, the public preview is open and you should be able to sign up.

On the support page For the public preview of the Google Home app, Google says that you should be able to go to the current Google Home page, tap on Settings and then search for “Public Preview” under the General section. From there you can “request an invite” or revoke it if the experience ends up not working for you at this time.

We’re not sure how you’ll be accepted (can you be rejected?), but Google mentioned it if you did be If you are accepted, you will receive a notification that a public preview is coming soon. The “I get it” button will allow you to officially join or you can “refuse to accept”.

So what’s new in the new Google Home experience? we I talked about it in early October, with photos and descriptions for things like updated camera and timeline views, quick grouping of similar device into Spaces, and the ability to set up favorite devices and actions. There is much more, which you can see in the official changelog below:

• Favorite: Easily access your favorite devices and actions. This includes the ability to favorite your cameras so you can watch live broadcasts when the app is running
• distances: Quickly access groups of similar devices such as lights
• Hardware: Find all your devices and check their status easily
• Updated camera and timeline views:
  • Vertical video history timeline: Quickly rub through hours of video history or jump into live view
  • Event Views: Access the list of events and go to a specific moment. Watch the video in landscape mode on your phone or tablet
  • Quick Actions: Watch and talk to anyone in front of the camera or doorbell with live or pre-recorded messages. Call emergency services (for US Nest Aware subscribers only), go into device settings and download any event to your phone
• Mini media player: See what’s playing in your home and adjust the volume or access the remote control
• Activity: See what happened in and around your home
• Settings: Find and manage devices, services, and household members

Again, if you want to join, head to the Google Home app, tap on your profile in the upper right corner, then on “Home app settings” and then find public preview Section to request an invitation.
