Investigators said a murder victim’s mobile phone recorded a video of his murder, while they were searching for the suspected killer.
An arrest warrant was issued Wednesday for Eugene “Rock” Weir in the murder of Tyrone Gay Monday along the 900 block of West Main Street in Norristown. Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office and Norristown Police said In a joint press release.
Police said the man was shot multiple times around 10 p.m. He was taken to a hospital in Philadelphia, where he died early Tuesday morning. He was 35 years old.
Before he was shot, police said, Jay hit a game on his iPhone, one of three found at the scene.
“The iPhone was actively recording video when officers found it,” the DA’s office statement said. “Stop recording and keep the mobile phone.”
Investigators later reviewed the video showing a confrontation between Jay and another man, who investigators later determined was Weir, a 41-year-old Philadelphia resident.
The DA’s office said, “It appears Weir is hiding something behind his back and, after exchanging words with the victim, swings at the cell phone and knocks it to the ground. Gunshots can then be heard in the video.”
The shooter seen in the video was wearing a black winter coat with a “distinctive red and white logo on the front” that matched a clothing brand that Ware sells via social media. The person in the video also has a tattoo that matches Ink Ware.
A Norristown detective said the man in the video appeared to be Weir, who had been in contact with the police in Norristown, according to a police complaint. Ware is currently on parole for past firearms violations and is not allowed to possess a gun.
Investigators said Weir was charged with first degree murder and weapons.
