Smart home accessory maker Aqara today shared new details about upcoming updates and product releases that will add support for the Matter home standard.

Aqara users will get access to Matter on their extensions for the first time in December 2022 via a remote update to the Aqara Hub M2, allowing existing Aqara Zigbee devices to become Matter-compatible. Other Aqara hubs, including the Hub M1S, Hub E1, Camera Hub G3, and Camera Hub G2H Pro, will receive similar updates in the following months.

Hub updates will expose more than 40 existing Aqara Zigbee devices, such as the door and window sensor, temperature and humidity sensor, and E1 curtain driver, to Matter and connect to other third-party Matter devices. Acara says it will expand its support for Matter to include more Zigbee devices in the future, with more than 160 accessories in the pipeline.

In addition, Acara plans to release a new line of thread-based multi-protocol devices with updated designs starting in early 2023, including native Matter support and direct connectivity to Matter controllers. The company also says it will open the Aqara Home app to support third-party Matter devices.
