Solar-powered Scion EV to feature advanced driver-assistance systems from Continental – PV Magazine USA
The listed EV company expanded its partnership with Continental to provide driver assistance, smart key and passive key access, and crash sensors.
Sono Motors, an electric vehicle maker, has tied up with auto parts supplier Continental AG to equip the company’s Sion solar-powered EV model with the advanced Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), along with other items to be supplied by Continental. expanded its relations.
The ADAS system is the first driver-assistance add-on system for Sono’s first EV model, designed to ensure that the Sono model meets new and stricter EU road safety regulations.
So far, Continental has provided climate control systems, energy charge and thermal management powertrain systems to Sono. Additional features under the extended configuration include smart entry and passive access as well as a crash sensor system.
Sono plans to price the first Cyan model at $25,803, with production expected to begin in the second half of 2023.
The Scion is a consumer solar EV model, with an outer shell consisting of 456 PV cells, enabling self-sufficiency on short duration trips or a driving range of approximately 305 km (189.5 mi). The solar cell is expected to add an additional 70 miles of driving range to the 54 kWh lithium phosphate battery cell which on its own provides 245 km (152 mi) of weekly driving range.
The battery system will allow a charging capacity of 75 kW DC fast charging or 11 kW standard AC charging.
Sono Motors was formed in Karben, Germany in January 2016 and parent company Sonos Group went public on the Nasdaq exchange in November 2021 with net proceeds of $156.1 million. The company has so far received around 20,000 reservations for the Scion model. The company also acquires components in partnership with Valmet Automotive, BOSCH, opnv And Raines Group,
