The foldable iPhone is now a reality thanks to a year-long DIY project
Apple has been rumored to be entering the folding phone race for some time now, but early reports suggest that at least a two years away More to the point it may not even be an iPhone but an iPad tablet device.
Instead of waiting for a folding iPhone from Apple, the team took over tech aesthetics Decided to go out and make a foldable clamshell out of iphone x internal and a. key chassis Motorola Razr 2019, The resulting device is called the iPhone V and took nearly a year of hard work, reverse engineering, and several trial and error examples to complete.
The team behind the project took an iPhone X screen and stripped out the glass cover and touch layers, leaving the flexible OLED. The process was simple and usable before required delicate maneuvering, advanced machinery, and a total of 37 iPhone X screens.
The project also involved a pair of Motorola Razr 2019s that were taken apart to accommodate the iPhone X internals. The team built a custom motherboard with 3D-printed components. Sacrifice had to be made due to space restrictions and the phone ended up with a 1,000mAh battery cell, which sadly doesn’t support wireless charging or MagSafe.
With the hardware side, the tech aesthetics The team started tweaking iOS to better suit the folding screen via jailbreak mode. The finished device supports split-screen instances of apps and can use both sides of the folding display.
