Twitter employees were told to send updates on their work each week

  • Twitter CEO and billionaire Elon Musk directly oversees its engineering department.
  • Everyone doing the technical work is expected to send a weekly report of what they have achieved.
  • This will help Twitter “rapidly upgrade software,” according to a leaked email.

The rest of Twitter’s staff is expected to keep CEO Elon Musk updated on everything they’re working on for the week.

Engineers and “anyone who would have to write code in other departments” were notified Monday afternoon of a new process for tracking their work, according to an email sent from the address used by Musk and his management team. Starting this week, everyone doing technical work or coding will have to submit a weekly summary of what they worked on, what they were expected to accomplish, and the exact lines of code they wrote.

“In order to rapidly innovate in software, it is essential to understand what everyone is working on and who is coding what,” the email said. It was signed by Twitter Engineering, a department run by Musk himself.

The email came just hours after Musk hosted another meeting at Twitter’s San Francisco headquarters, where he said no more layoffs to come and there are no plans to move the company’s base to Texas. Twitter now has about 2,300 full-time employees, Insider reported, down from 7,500 when Musk took over the company in late October.

Emails will now require employees to send individually, include a description of “What project you’re working on” and “What you’re trying to do,” along with specific “Code Samples/Phabricator links” to the code they’ve written. week”. Phabricator is a software development platform that enables active review of submitted code.

Depending on the specific type of work a person does, they will need to change the information they send each week, as specified in the email. He concludes: “We hope to make Twitter the world’s highest-performing technology software company.”
