Volkswagen: Unique in its category: New ID. Buzz impresses with innovative driver assistance systems
If the turn signal lever is tapped briefly, the vehicle may make an auxiliary lane change on the motorway. It can use Swarm data or even learn a recurring parking maneuver: Volkswagen ID. buzz01 Being introduced with a new intelligent assist system that can make driving even more convenient and also enhance safety. This is in line with Volkswagen’s commitment to making the latest technologies quickly accessible to a broad customer base.
“At ID. Buzz, iconic design meets innovative technology, and this is reflected in new convenience and assistance systems. We are taking the next step on the path of highly automated driving with the use of Swarm data in the latest Travel Assist, “This is in line with Volkswagen’s commitment to offering premium technology and innovations in as many models as possible,” explains Kai Grunitz, a member of the Volkswagen Brand Board of Management responsible for development.
Volkswagen is using the latest generation assist system fully integrated into the ID. Travel assistance optionally available with discussion Swarm data3/4 and Park Assist Plus with memory function3 There are perfect examples of this. These systems can also be optionally ordered for all other newly produced IDs. ID.3. model from03 and from ID.4 to ID.5.
Travel Help with Swarm Data3/4
Optional Travel Assist can keep the vehicle in the lane, maintain distance from the vehicle in front and also ensure that the vehicle remains at the maximum speed set by the driver. Among other things, it uses the adaptive lane guidance system for this. This system actively keeps the vehicle in the middle of its lane. Travel Assist adapts itself to the driver’s driving style and can steer the vehicle further left or right in the lane rather than in the middle. Travel assist also comes with predictive cruise control and cornering assist function. Here, the vehicle speed can be adapted to the valid speed limit and the course of the road (inclines, roundabouts, etc.).
New travel assistance features. If anonymized Swarm data from other Volkswagen models is available, Travel Assist with Swarm data can only use a marked road lane marking to place the vehicle in the lane. In this case, for example, the assistance system is also available on country roads without central lane marking. The availability of Travel Assist is further enhanced by the swarm data, improved comfort and level of customer support.
Data swarm from the fleet. With the use of Swarm data, Volkswagen is taking the next step towards highly automated driving. Unknown Swarm data is generated by several million Volkswagen Group vehicles. To this end, the vehicle fleet also collects map material with specific features from the vehicle’s vicinity – such as marker lines and road signs – and automatically transmits this information to the cloud. From there, individually customized data is sent to the participating Volkswagen models that are currently driving along the respective road segments. The database is growing all the time thanks to the large number of participating vehicles.
Assisted lane changes at 90 km/h. When driving at speeds in excess of 90 km/h on a motorway, Travel Assist with Swarm data can actively support lane changes if this is desired by the driver. When activated, the lane change can be initiated and performed by tapping the turn signal. To complete operation, the sensor must not detect any objects around the vehicle and the capacitive steering wheel must be able to detect the driver’s hands. Id. Buzz then automatically moves into the desired lane. The driver is able to maneuver and maneuver at any time.
Park Assist Plus with Memory Function3 Allows vehicle to drive freely in parking spaces
The second optional help system in ID. Buzz is with park assist plus memory function. This innovative driver assistance system can be used to teach the vehicle five individual parking maneuvers. Memory function remembers parking procedures covering speeds less than 40 km / h and distances up to 50 m. This allows the vehicle to be parked in a carport or garage, for example. The driver has to park the vehicle only once and save the parking process. Id. Buzz can then repeat the learned parking maneuver on his own. All the driver has to do then is keep an eye on the situation.
Once activated in the Parking menu, Park Assist Plus3 Can also search for parking space and perform parking maneuver. When driving past parking spaces, the intelligent assist system detects suitable parallel parking spaces at speeds up to 40 km/h and parking bays up to 20 km/h. The driver then only has to stop at the selected parking spot, press the brake, and activate and monitor the parking process. Help system parks ID. Buzz with the help of sensors that monitor the surroundings – it accelerates, accelerates, brakes and changes gears. It can also continue driver-initiated parking maneuvers and, if possible, complete them. The system also provides assistance when re-entering parallel parking spaces.
Wide range of driver assistance systems
Travel Assist with Swarm Data and Park Assist Plus with Memory Function, in addition to ID. Buzz also has other driver assistance systems that can help enhance driving safety. The following support systems are on board as standard: Self Support3braking oncoming vehicles while turning3driver alert system3autonomous emergency braking3 Front Assist with Pedestrian and Cyclist Monitoring3Lane Keeping System Lane Assist 3dynamic road sign display3and Car2X traffic hazard warning function3, where vehicles report critical situations to each other. Other support systems are also available optionally. This is Adaptive Cruise Control ACC Stop and Go3 (See Travel Assist for included functions), Anti-theft alarm system with internal monitoring, Keyless advanced locking and starting system, Park Assist Plus3field view3 and side assist lane change system3,
3The Driver Assistance function can only be used within the limits of the system. The driver must be prepared at all times to override the assist system. These systems do not absolve drivers of their responsibility to drive with due care and attention. The operation can be disabled at any time.
