Apple releases a firmware update for AirTags

Apple today released a new firmware update designed for AirTag item trackers, with the firmware featuring an updated build number 2A36, higher than the 2A24e firmware Apple launched. Release in November.

Apple does not provide release notes for AirTag updates, so we don’t know what’s new in this update.

An AirTag can’t be forced to update, because it’s something that’s done over the air with a connection Iphone. To make sure the update happens, you can place your AirTag in range of your iPhone‌‌, but you have to wait for the firmware to be rolled out to your device. Oddly enough, Apple started offering the earlier 2A24e AirTags The firmware was on a rolling basis in November, but eventually pulled the update before seeing a full launch. The new firmware released today supersedes this version.
