Dozens of people sought help from the Red Cross after the fire broke out on Wednesday afternoon
Baltimore — More than 20 families sought assistance from the Red Cross in the national capital and the Greater Chesapeake region after a fire broke out at an apartment complex in Laurel Maryland on Wednesday, according to first responders.
Red Cross officials said the fire damaged an apartment complex in the 13000 block of Briarwood Drive.
According to the Prince George’s County Fire Department, it started around 2:46 p.m.
Fire officials said the fire displaced 44 residents from 14 units.
Trained volunteers are providing essential services to those displaced persons. According to first responders, those services include replacement of food, water, financial resources, emotional support and medications.
Red Cross officials said that in the coming days and weeks, team members of volunteers will continue to work with affected individuals and families to provide additional recovery resources and help those affected.
All Red Cross assistance is free. People with disaster-related needs can call 1-800-RED CROSS for assistance.
