As winter weather causes “unprecedented” delays and cancellations at Vancouver International Airport during one of the busiest travel weeks of the year, airlines are offering options to travelers who choose to cancel their plans.

FLYING WITH AIR CANADA?
The airline announced Tuesday that it will offer what it calls an “extended goodwill policy” for those who reschedule or cancel.
“Due to the current weather event in Vancouver, we understand that you would like to make other travel arrangements. If you currently have a reservation, Air Canada has a policy in place that allows you to make voluntary changes to your itinerary.” says an online updateadding that changes can be made two hours before departure.
“Those scheduled to travel to and from Vancouver between Dec. 20-25 can rebook at no cost until Dec. 31,” a spokeswoman told CTV News in an email, noting that the rebooked flight must take place before Dec. 31.
For those unable to rebook during the narrow window, vouchers will be issued for future travel.
The carrier said it will not issue vouchers to anyone staying at the airport for food or hotel rooms.
“Because weather and storm conditions are beyond Air Canada’s direct control, we are unable to provide accommodation or meals,” a spokeswoman said Tuesday. .
FLYING WITH WESTJET?
Those with flights booked between December 20 and December 26 can “proactively cancel” and receive a full refund by completing an online form. This only applies to ‘flight only’ fares booked directly with the airline and not to package holidays, group flights or travel booked through a travel agent. according to the company’s website.
The airline has also activated “enhanced change and cancellation policies” for flights scheduled until January 8, 2023. However, any changes or cancellations “must be made” by December 26th. fees Refunds will be issued without a cancellation fee, however, “as per the guidelines of the original fare bundle”.
Those who are faced with a canceled or delayed flight at the airport will not have many options for alternatives.
