FaceTimes on your iPhone can be more fun

An apple iOS 16 Bringing new features to the video chat app confrontation timeLike the ability to seamlessly transfer calls between iPhone, iPad, and Mac, but one of the more fun features arrived in 2021: the ability for users to darken their backgrounds, add filters to video calls, and more.

While similar features can be found in other video chat appsSuch as Zoom And the Microsoft TeamsThey are generally used in professional settings. You won’t trade your head for a cow’s when having an important meeting with your boss, but you might when talking to friends and family.

Here’s how to turn these FaceTime features on to make your video calls more fun.

Turn on Portrait Mode in FaceTime calls

Portrait Fashion On FaceTime calls is similar to background blur on a Zoom call. You will still be in focus, but everything behind you will be out of focus. Here’s how to play it.

1. Start a FaceTime call.

2. Click on the box where your video appears. This will enlarge and center your video square.

3. Click on vertical symbol in the upper left corner of the screen and portrait mode will be activated. You should see a blurry background right away.

4. Click the space around the video box to zoom out your video and rejoin the call.

Follow these same steps to turn off Portrait Mode.

Add filters, text, and more to FaceTime calls

Besides Portrait Mode, you can apply filters and other features to your video in FaceTime calls. Here’s how.

1. Start a FaceTime call.

2. Click on the box where your video appears. This will enlarge and center your video square.

3. Click on star symbol bottom left of the screen, and a new menu will appear at the bottom of the screen.

4. In the new menu you will see options to add a file Memojifilters, text, and more to your FaceTime call. Hit each option to explore and get your video the way you want it.

5. Tap the video around your video box to exit the menu. Your filters and effects will be applied.

To remove filters and effects, follow the first three steps above. Once you press the star icon, the filters and effects will be disabled.
