Good luck figuring out how to download Warzone 2.0

Update 11/16/22: An additional update for Call of Duty was released this morning, and it’s about 70GB for Xbox Series X/S and 20GB for PlayStation 5.

PlayStation 5 users will also have to re-download the Warzone, multiplayer and Spec Ops content packs (if they were previously installed), adding an additional 10GB to the total download size.

It’s unclear why PlayStation users have to re-download these packs, but this has been a regular occurrence with the Modern Warfare (2019) and Warzone updates.

If you have slow internet speeds, I highly recommend that you allow time to download updates before Warzone 2.0 release time tonightwhich kicks off at 6pm here in the UK.

Of course, this is not a convenience for those with data caps, as the energy crisis has sent electricity prices skyrocketing.

Original story 11/15/22:Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 is now available for pre-load ahead of the game’s release tomorrow – but doing so is anything but simple.

PlayStation 4 and 5 owners looking for Warzone 2.0 last night couldn’t find the download by searching for “Call of Duty Warzone” in the PlayStation Store, while Steam users who own Modern Warfare 2 found no download at all.

Things are a little better on Xbox where Warzone 2.0 can be discovered through its Store page. However, upon closer inspection, the download also seems baffling that it bundles Modern Warfare 2 for free.

So, what is going on here? Well, for the second time now, Activision has integrated Warzone 2.0 into the Modern Warfare 2 launcher, just as it did with Warzone and Modern Warfare (2019).

PlayStation 5 users can find Warzone 2.0 by heading to the Modern Warfare 2 store page and clicking on the context menu to see the different versions of the game. There, you will find the Warzone 2.0 option.

The download size depends on whether or not you already have Modern Warfare 2 installed, as those who have the game will have a much smaller 2.51GB, while those who download from scratch will have a larger 45GB download.

For Steam, Activision confirmed That anyone with Modern Warfare 2 installed will have Warzone 2.0 pre-loaded already, while those without it can go ahead and download Warzone 2.0 on their own.

While this is more obvious, the way it works has proven controversial with the die-hard Call of Duty community. News of the merge sent this post to the top of the Modern Warfare 2 subreddit:

The main problem for fans here is that Warzone is the evergreen live-action Call of Duty game with a larger player base, which is often judged to overshadow Activision’s premium offering. Activision’s launcher caters first and foremost to Warzone, players say, while the premium Modern Warfare is a close second. This led to the core community adopting a so-called “clean slate” prior to the integration of Warzone.

I He raised this issue a few months ago, as the original Warzone shutdown plans led to fears that Modern Warfare would shut down as well. Thankfully, the interface of Modern Warfare (2019) appears to be back to its pre-Warzone look (albeit with a big announcement for Modern Warfare 2).

However, for fans, this integration creates a broader sense that Activision’s development resources are being pulled away from Modern Warfare 2 and toward Warzone 2.0. The community has pointed this out Just two maps Season 1 of the game has been announced, both of which are recycled from previous games. The game’s first major patch also coincides with the launch of Warzone 2.0, which raises questions about whether Modern Warfare 2’s development was determined by the battle royale mode’s development cycle.
