Donald Trump’s infamous Twitter account was reinstated on Saturday after the platform’s new owner, Elon Musk, conducted a poll in which a narrow majority of voters supported the move, days after the former US president announced another bid for the White House.
Trump’s account was banned from the platform early last year for his role in the Jan. 6 attack on the US Capitol by a mob of his supporters seeking to overturn the results of the 2020 election.
“People have spoken. Trump is coming back,” Musk wrote on Twitter, shortly after the 24-hour Twitter poll ended.
“Vox populi, fox day,” he added, echoing a Latin saying he also posted on Friday, which means “the voice of the people is the voice of God.”
In the end, more than 15 million people – out of Twitter’s 237 million daily users – voted to reinstate the controversial profile, with 51.8% in favor and 48.2% against.
Trump, who had more than 88 million users when his account was suspended, has been happy to use Twitter as a gag during his presidency, posting policy ads, attacking political rivals and reaching out to supporters.
On Saturday, many of his political allies were highlighting his return.

Misk poll He asked for a simple “yes” or “no” response to the “Return Ex President Trump” statement, which the billionaire boss posted on Twitter on Friday.
