White House announces additional security aid for Ukraine
US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan announced another package of security aid for Ukraine that will include a new air defense system and surface-to-air missiles.
“Today, the United States will announce another package of security assistance for Ukraine, which includes significant air defense contributions, such as missiles for Hawk air defense systems, as well as four US Avenger air defense systems equipped with Stinger missiles,” Sullivan said during one. Briefing at the White House on Thursday, reports a Ukrinform correspondent.
According to him, this equipment will complement other air defense contributions to Ukraine declared within the Ramstein format by the United States, allies and partners.
Sullivan also noted that during his visit to Kyiv last week, he had a chance to consult with President Zelensky about what Ukraine needed to be in the strongest position on the battlefield. He stressed that the current aid package would be “important” for Ukraine as Russia continues to use cruise missiles and Iranian-made drones to attack civilian infrastructure.
As reported, the Spanish government announced on Thursday that it planned to deliver two additional Hawk air defense systems to Ukraine in addition to the four previously shipped. In addition, Spain’s defense ministry said it would provide Ukraine with 105 mm howitzer batteries and standby generators to address the country’s power shortage.
