BEIJING – Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered a written speech at the International Forum on Hybrid Rice Aid and Global Food Security held in Beijing on Saturday.

In his speech, Xi said that food security is fundamental to human existence. Half a century ago, hybrid rice was first successfully developed and widely planted in China. Thanks to this technology, China has managed to feed about 20 percent of the world’s population with less than 9 percent of the world’s arable land, and has become the world’s largest food producer and third largest food exporter.

Since 1979, hybrid rice began to be introduced to the world, benefiting about 70 countries on five continents. Xi said it has been a significant contribution to increasing their grain production and agricultural development, and has offered a Chinese solution to food shortages in developing countries.

At present, global food security is facing serious challenges and complexities, China will continue to work with all countries in the spirit of solidarity and shared future to advance global development initiatives, enhance cooperation on food security and poverty reduction. Will increase, contribute more. The Chinese President called for accelerated implementation of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and building a world free of hunger and poverty.
